virginislandsGreen Women Rising support “Virgin Islands Relief Fund” in lieu of starting one of our own in the interest of expedience and ”on the ground” experience.

On September 6th , Hurricane Irma tore through the Caribbean, meeting the United States Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands head on. Irma was the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic, with winds reaching over 220 miles per hour. In its wake, a post-apocalyptic trail of devastation remains.

A lot of main essentials are desperately needed by citizens on the islands. Please help any way you can so we can get much-needed basics to the people of our island territories, like tarps, fresh water, chainsaws, extension cords, generators, gas, baby formula, bug spray and non-perishable foods. Thank you in advance.

Rally to Defend DACA! Legalization for All!

This call to action is hosted by UofU Students for a Democratic Society

President Trump has rescinded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) which allows people who entered the US as children to live and work in the US without the threat of deportation. Join us in the streets to#DefendDACA and to demand #LegalizationForAll!

The Legalization For All! Network has called on people to hit the streets.
“A hard-earned victory by the immigrant rights movement in 2012 is under imminent threat by President Trump.

On Sunday, Sept. 3, Trump spoke with U.S. Speaker of the House of Representatives Paul Ryan about slashing DACA in the following six months.

Young undocumented immigrants known as DREAMers challengedPresident Obama during his 2012 reelection campaign for lack of action on legalization of the undocumented. Countless protests at his campaign offices forced President Obama to issue an executive order to establish Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) on June 13, 2012.

Over 800,000 undocumented youth who were brought to the U.S. as children have since been issued temporary visas, good for about three years. This allows them to get jobs and drivers licenses. Over 90% of them have become employed and many have gone on to seek a higher education.”
“We say, “Hit the streets and defend DACA! Defend the undocumented! Legalization for all now!””

See post on police brutality towards nurse here.

This is an emergency rally in response to an incredibly gross act of police misconduct against nurse Alex Wubbels, who refused to comply with a police officer’s demands to break the law by withdrawing blood from unconscious patients.

We have to stop this police brutlaity! We need to make it clear that this is intolerable behavior, we must call for the firing of SLCPD Detective Jeff Payned and for more community control of the police!

This is going to be at the Salt Lake City Public Safety Building, which is across the street of the east side of the downtown library. For those taking TRAX, the closest station is the Library Station on Red Line.

Here is a URL of an image to the building for assistance

Here are some informative news stories on the arrest:
